We learned at the announcement of the latest provincial budget that the period of eligibility for the RénoVert tax credit has been extended by one year to March 31, 2019. Therefore, you must enter into a contract with a qualified contractor by that date. The RénoVert tax credit was introduced in 2016 on a temporary basis to encourage individuals to invest in home renovation work that has a positive impact when it comes to the environment and to energy efficiency... like the installation of new doors and windows!
RénoVert is a 20% refundable tax credit that applies to residential renovations from $2,500 to $52,500. You can claim it if you have recognized eco-friendly renovation work done on a dwelling that is your principal residence or a winterized cottage that you normally occupy. The dwelling can be a condominium, an apartment in a multiple-unit residential building, or a single-family, prefabricated or mobile home. For more information about recognized work and qualified contractors, you can contact Revenu Québec: https://www.revenuquebec.ca/en/citizens/tax-credits/renovert-tax-credit/
And above all, allow yourself to dream and begin to consider how you could get the best of three worlds: be more environmentally responsible, lower your energy bills, AND improve the appearance of your house!
